Critics Hail Todd Snider As “One Of The Best Singer-Songwriters In America”. The Avalon learned this firsthand years ago when Snider wowed those in attendance with his powerfully honest lyrics and gritty alt-country sound. He returns to Easton next Tuesday night, May 17th in support of his most recent release, the live 24-track recording The Storyteller. Tickets are still available at the Avalon’s box office (410.443.4085) for $25.
The Excitement Plan (2009), Snider’s last album of all original material, was a laid- back groove with top- shelf lyrics that was called Snider’s best work to date. “This music is sorta JJ Cale meets Jerry Jeff Walker sounding with words that would hopefully impress Shel Silverstein, Bobby Bare, Chuck Berry, Kris Kristofferson or Randy Newman,” Snider says. With his contributions of stellar guitar, piano, and harmonica, his musicianship shares the spotlight as easily as his treasured lyrics, continuing an upward trend that has seen Snider’s star rising slowly but steadily.
“Snider combines the sly phrasing of a stoner, the perfect timing of a standup comedian, and a mastery of the tiny detail.” -The New Yorker
He’s a vociferous musician whose fans know him to be quite the workhorse. Past albums have ended up on numerous year-end Top 10 lists including Spin, Blender, and Rolling Stone. He’s one of current music’s protest singer-songwriters – tactfully penning tasty gems about peace, love, and anarchy. He’s also hot on the summer festival circuit, coming off of Bonnaroo, All Good (Festival), and 10,000 Lakes appearances in recent years.
