American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Queen Anne’s County will be held at Queen Anne’s 4-H Park in Centreville on May 14th and 15th, 2011.
Relay For Life is a time for Communities to come together to celebrate the lives of people who have battled Cancer, honor Cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost and provide the participants the opportunity to fight back against the disease, CANCER.
The event opens to the public at 4pm on Saturday, MAY 14th. The Opening Ceremony begins at 6pm, starting with the Survivor/Caregiver lap. The Survivor Reception follows at 6:30pm. At 7:3ppm the event hosts a Kids Walk. All children 12 and under are invited. We will have a variety of activities. There will be games, entertainment, contests, silent auction, food and much more. Campsites will be formed. Teams of people will camp out all night at the 4-H Park and take turns walking or running around the path. Each team will have someone on the path all night, because Cancer never sleeps. At 9pm as the sun sets and darkness falls, the night will be lit with illuminated bags called Luminaria, each bearing the name of someone who has battled Cancer. Some honor those who have won their battle, others remember loved ones lost. They all represent someone special who has been profoundly affected by Cancer. Luminaria bags can be purchased for a donation of $ 10.00 each. By lighting this light, you acknowledge Love.
Each person who shares the Relay experience can take pride in knowing that they are working to create a world where Cancer will no longer threaten the lives of our loved ones or claim another year of anyone’s life, a world of more Birthdays.
