Members of the Bosom Buddies Ball committee shared an evening with Cancer Comfort Angels at the Rustico Restaurant in Stevensville to announce and celebrate the 2012 honoree for the coming Bosom Buddies Ball, Laurie Rasinski.
This past October, these two great local groups with the same goal, to support Breast Cancer efforts, came together and hosted an event for Queen Anne’s County high school students “Pink Attitude-Show you care, Be Aware”. This was the beginning of what both groups know will be a continued relationship.
Laurie Rasinski founded the Cancer Comfort Angels after she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2008. She received a homemade blanket from a young family friend and was inspired to pass on that act of kindness to others who need love and support during their journey with cancer. Since then, the non-profit organization has been creating “Comfort Kits” containing a homemade blanket, a cross and inspiring poems by Laurie. Laurie says, “We don’t want anyone to feel alone”.
Bosom Buddies was founded by Susan Ponchock of Stevensville and will hold their 6th Annual Bosom Buddies Ball on January 21st at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. Each year the ball committee selects an honoree to speak at the event. Laurie is being recognized for her work in supporting and inspiring others. Biana Arentz, co-chair for the 2012 Ball, when announcing the honoree said: “Laurie is an inspiration to us all. We are so honored to have her be our 2012 Honoree”.
The annual Bosom Buddies Ball has helped to raise more than one million in funds resulting in the donation of a digital mammography machine and ultra-sound imaging equipment to the Anne Arundel Medical Center on Kent Island. Bosom Buddies also sponsors a Survivor Retreat, monthly support group meetings and an ad campaign to remind women to get their mammograms. Their success has been profound.
The Ball includes a top-notch band, lots of dancing, a delicious meal and an extraordinary auction. To request tickets or additional information please email bosombuddiesball@gmail.com or visit their website bosombuddiescharities.com.
