Instructor Hanna Kingsley returns to the Arts Council to offer a new course that takes Anime or Chibi to the next level learning great techniques for clothing and accessories. “Anime” is defined as the Japanese style often characterized by bright, colorful and whimsical elements. “Chibi” translates to “Tiny is Cute” and refers to the cute and childish style of anime that focuses on exaggerating the eyes, hands, face and animal characteristics.

Drawing students will learn to bring personality to their Anime and Chibi characters through clothing design and realistically fitting them with their character’s image and style. Lessons in realism, fantasy and animals are also explored.

“Anime V. Chibi: Clothing and Accessories” is Saturday, March 23 from 10 am to 2 pm. The class is open to ages 10 to 18. Cost is $50 for members and $65 for non-members and there is a $5 additional fee for materials payable to the instructor on the first day of class. The deadline for registration is March 15. Registered students will receive a materials list.

Kingsley is a 2011 graduate of Queen Anne’s County High School and was a recipient of the 2011 Arts Council scholarship. She is currently enrolled at Chesapeake College studying art therapy. She is a regular visitor to the annual KatSuCon fan convention for anime, manga and Japanese culture enthusiasts which is held in Washington D.C.

Centre for the Arts classes are designed to renew existing artistic interests and develop new skills.
