Instructor Hanna Kingsley returns to the Arts Council to offer a new course that takes Anime or Chibi to the next level learning great coloring techniques. “Anime” is defined as the Japanese animation style often characterized by bright, colorful and whimsical elements. “Chibi” translates to “Tiny is Cute” and refers to the cute and childish style of anime that focuses on exaggerating the eyes, hands, face and animal characteristics.

Drawing students will bring their Anime and Chibi characters to life with bold, brilliant color. The basics of color schemes and using different coloring materials for different effects are the focus of this class.

“Anime V. Chibi: Coloring” is two consecutive Saturdays, February 23 and March 2, from 9 am to noon. The class is open to ages 8 to 18. Cost is $50 for members and $65 for non-members and there is a $3 additional fee for materials payable to the instructor on the first day of class. Registered students will receive a materials list.

Kingsley is a 2011 graduate of Queen Anne’s County High School and was a recipient of the 2011 Arts Council scholarship. She is currently enrolled at Chesapeake College studying art therapy. She is a regular visitor to the annual KatSuCon fan convention for anime, manga and Japanese culture enthusiasts which is held in Washington D.C.

Centre for the Arts classes are designed to renew existing artistic interests and develop new skills.
