The Annapolis Triathlon Club (ATC) is partnering with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) to host a triathlon at SERC – “Tri for the Environment” on 30 June 2013. The swim and run legs will be conducted within the SERC preserve and the bike route is anticipated to go down Muddy Creek Road, Galesville Road and finish at the SERC facilities. The planned distances will be a 1/2 mile swim, 15 mile bike and 3.1 mile trail run.
The ATC is proud to work with SERC to highlight its mission to lead the nation in research on linkages of land and water ecosystems in the coastal zone and provide society with knowledge to meet critical environmental challenges in the 21st century. Participants will experience the Chesapeake Bay ecosystems firsthand through competition on SERC?s unique and pristine property. The event will provide an opportunity for the ATC to organize an event targeted for local triathletes, at a local venue and to benefit local charity organizations.
Tri for the Environment is scheduled for Sun., June 30, 2013. To preserve the integrity of the venue, the number of participants will be limited. Additional details and registration will be available for individuals and teams on the ATC website at www.triannapolis.org. Approximately 100 volunteers will be needed to ensure a smooth and safe event.
