WEIGHT LOSS MANAGEMENT
Lose Weight and Soar to Better Health

Description: This free seminar is designed for people who are obese by 100 pounds or more and who want to learn about surgical weight loss options. In this seminar, Dr. Alex Gandsas, an expert bariatric surgeon who has performed more than 2,200 bariatric procedures, will describe three different options for surgical weight loss, the process involved and what is required before, during and after surgery. During this small group session, you will have plenty of time to ask questions and get answers about the procedure. You will be able to meet Dr. Gandsas and his care team including the bariatric nurse coordinator and the dietitian. Appointments can also be made after the seminar.

Young Women’s Cardiac Support Group
Date: June 10 and July 8
Time: 4:30pm

Description: 2nd Monday every month. For women 55 years old and younger that have any risk factors for cardiac disease (hypertension, diabetes, family history, high cholesterol, etc.), history of cardiac disease, and/or cardiac surgery. Hosted by Dr. Furlow.

Annapolis Stroke Club
Date: June 18
Time: 6-7pm
Location: Doordan Institute, AAMC Health Sciences Pavilion, 7th Floor, Annapolis, Md.
Description: The Stroke Club is a support group for stroke survivors, their families and caregivers. There is no charge to attend. Members will gather monthly for educational programs and social activities. Meeting topics will include stroke related education, such as stress management and medication management. Topics will vary each month.

Pillars4Life: Thriving in the Face of Cancer

LIVING WELL with Diabetes
Date: July 9, class meets every Tuesday for six weeks
Time: 9:30am – 12pm

Description: LIVING WELL with Diabetes, is a six-week workshop for people with pre-diabetes. Type 1 or Type 2 are eligible. Participants will learn about complications that are associated with diabetes, as well as learn to manage their blood sugar and understand the relationship between food and blood-sugar levels. There will also be instructions on how to read nutrition labels, deal with stress, and how to improve communication with doctors.

LIVING WELL with Chronic Conditions

Description: LIVING WELL, a six week Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop, can help you cope with the frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation often associated with chronic conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease and obesity. Topics covered include appropriate exercise and medications; effective communication with family and health professionals; proper nutrition and how to evaluate new treatments. Description: This program is designed for those interested in creating a healthier home through toxin reduction. This interactive class will teach you how to be a toxin sleuth. You’ll become an expert at reading labels and identifying harmful chemicals. You’ll also learn many budget friendly steps to reduce your toxin exposure.
Toxic substances are chemicals and metals that can harm your health. Everyone is exposed to toxic substances every day. This class can help you prevent or reduce your exposure to these substances. Take this simple step in protecting your health and your family’s health.
