Hip and Knee Pain? How to Get Relief
Date: April 2 at AAMC’s Health Sciences Pavilion, 7th floor, 2000 Medical Parkway, Annapolis.
April 17 at Pascal Senior Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie, MD
Time: 1-3pm
Description: A free class designed for people who need help managing their joint pain. This one-hour program covers basics of arthritis and options to get relief from pain. Taught by one of the program coordinators from AAMC’s Joint Center, a national role model for excellence in joint replacement. During the small group session, participants have plenty of time to ask questions and get answers to their questions.

A Real Sport: Bone Strength for a Lifetime
Date: April 4
Time: 6:30pm
Where: Doordan Institute, AAMC Health Sciences Pavilion, 7th Floor, Annapolis
Description: Join us for a discussion on how to prevent osteoporosis and keep our bones healthy and strong. Wear comfortable clothing as a personal trainer will show us exercises we can do at home. Learn how strength training can improve your health.
Christina Morganti, MD, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center orthopedist, will discuss osteoporosis prevention and how we can keep our bodies healthy and strong.

Weight Loss Surgery
Date: April 9
Time: 6-7m
Where: Doordan Institute, AAMC Health Sciences Pavilion, 7th Floor, Annapolis
Description: Get answers to questions about gastric sleeve, lap band and gastric bypass surgery procedures. Meet the bariatric team and learn about diet, nutrition, health and fitness and lifestyle modification pre- and post-surgery. This meeting is for people at least 100 pounds overweight and other options have failed.

Support Groups
Man to Man: Prostate Support Group
Date: April 1
Time: 6:30-8:00 PM
Where: Doordan Institute, AAMC Health Sciences Pavilion, 7th Floor, Annapolis, Md
Description: The Man to Man Program helps men cope with prostate cancer by offering community-based education and support for patients and their family members. Participants learn about and discuss information about prostate cancer, treatment, side effects and how to cope with prostate cancer and its treatment. Meets the first Monday of each month. No registration required.

Young Women’s Cardiac Support Group

Description: 2nd Monday every month. For women 55 and younger that have any risk factors for cardiac disease (hypertension, diabetes, family history, high cholesterol, etc.), history of cardiac disease, and/or cardiac surgery. Breastfeeding Basics
Date: April 3

Description: This class will prepare you for a successful and rewarding breastfeeding experience. You will learn how to prepare for breastfeeding, how to hold your baby, how often and how long to feed, how to avoid common problems and much more. Class fee includes participant and partner. Birth partners are encouraged to attend.

Newborn Care
Date: April 6
Time: 9:00am-1:00pm
Where: Doordan Institute, AAMC Health Sciences Pavilion, 7th Floor, Annapolis, Md.
Description: Learn how to bathe and diaper, swaddle and comfort; choose and prepare infant formula, how to take a temperature and know when it is necessary to call the doctor. Sleep strategies (yours and theirs) are presented along with suggestions on how to handle too much advice. This is a four-hour, hands-on class. FEE: $50/expectant mother and partner.

Super Sitter
Date: April 6
Time: 9:00am-2:00pm
Where: Clatanoff Lobby, 2001 Medical Parkway
Description: The Super Sitter class teaches children ages 11-15 how to be GREAT babysitters. Using the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Super Sitter Guide, babysitters learn about children, their families, product safety, having a job and managing money. Topics include: 1) What makes a Super Sitter? 2) What is expected of a babysitter? 3) Where the child is…babysitters don’t do much sitting. 4) The toys children play with. 5) Playing outdoors, including pool/water safety. 6) Poison-food for thought only. 7) Time to leave-putting it all together.

Pediatric Pre-Surgical Tours
Date: April 7

Where: Hospital Pavilion South, 1st floor LEED Lobby
Description: Prepare your child (and yourself) for their surgery by attending this age appropriate and fun, inside view of what will happen on your child’s day of surgery. We will travel through all the different areas of surgical services and pediatrics that will be encountered by you and your child on their day of surgery at AAMC.
