Area Citizens Form Friends of Queen Anne’s County PAC

Concerned citizens have joined to create Friends of Queen Anne’s County PAC.  This political action committee is committed to supporting County Commissioner candidates who recognize that our county is facing serious social and economic challenges and who are willing to tackle the problems created by previous Commissioners.   QAC Commissioners have approved irresponsible spending and have overreacted to the unwarranted fears of some that Queen Anne’s County is becoming an over-developed annex of the western shore.  The result of this agenda is a county struggling to maintain public services and with significant debt:

The commercial tax base (percentage that commercial properties contribute to QAC tax revenues) was 12% in 2002 – today it is below 7% and falling.  The tax burden is shifting      disproportionately to residential taxpaying middle-class families and seniors on fixed incomes.  Filling empty storefronts and vacant existing properties around the county will not correct this imbalance.

The county budget has increased a staggering 66% in the last 7 years – from $66 to $110     million, and the county government has grown by 25%, while the population has increased less than 11% since 2003.  QAC must move back toward a responsible balanced budget

During the current term the Commissioners have spent over $12,000,000 on real estate, thus removing those properties from the tax rolls while increasing our debt obligations and interest payments, charting a course of unsustainable capital spending.

Friends of Queen Anne’s County PAC believes that we are facing a combination of sharply reduced services and higher property taxes unless we find a middle ground of balanced growth and fiscal responsibility.  Friends of QAC supports candidates who will work toward that goal.

Concerned citizens who support policies that favor economic opportunity for our residents and fiscal responsibility for QAC,  and wish to make a contribution, can find more information on Facebook at “Friends of Queen Anne’s County PAC”.
