Area Physicians Attend Workshop on Bioethics and Research

Through a National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities grant, the Eastern Shore Cancer Research Network (ESCRN) and Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center (AHEC) recently co-sponsored a workshop for area physicians entitled “Bioethics and Research: The Benefits and Risks of Clinical Trials.” Claudia R. Baquet, MD, MPH, and Mary S. De Shields, MD presented the workshop lectures, followed by a question and answer period. Dr. Baquet is the Associate Dean of Policy and Planning, Professor of Medicine, and Director of the Bioethics Research Infrastructure Center at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, University of Baltimore. Dr. De Shields, an oncologist in Easton, is Medical Director of the Cancer Clinical Trials Program at Shore Health System’s Regional Cancer Center and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, well as the founder and director of ESCRN.
