Art Exhibit Opening & Reception at KIFA

April Show Painted Chair 2013 (400 x 536)Three dimensional art is any piece of art that can be handled, touched or perceived to be three dimensional. For example, paintings are 2D while bronze sculptures are 3D. 3D art is used in everything from print ads, to web sites, television, movies, video games, and beyond. So, what does it take to be a 3D artist? Having an eye for art helps, but being motivated and inspired by the world around you, no matter how mundane or fantastic your world might be, are the attributes of a 3D artist.

The Kent Island Federation of Arts’ April show entitled ‘Art in 3D: Clay, Carving & Sculpture’ is exhibiting the 3D art of local artists who have taken the challenge of creating pieces made of wood, clay, fiber, paper, wire, and several other mediums. The artists are of all ages and the work interprets various subjects.

Sally Clark, a popular area artist, entered three whimsical painted pieces of furniture. Clark is a former art educator who now works as a full-time artist. Her watercolors and whimsical designs on furniture are on display in several galleries and held in private collections. She is co-owner of The Artists Gallery in Chestertown, MD.

Art in 3D: Clay, Carving & Sculpture, an open exhibit of artists of all ages, runs from April 3 through April 27, 2013. The public is welcome to the KIFA Gallery every Wednesday through Friday from 10 – 4 pm, Saturdays from 1 – 4 p.m. Join us for an Artist Reception on Saturday, April 6 from 3 – 5 pm. Come see the show and meet the participating artists while enjoying light refreshments. The public is welcome to this free event at 405 Main Street in historic Stevensville.
