This Rodgers & Hammerstein’s collaboration opened on Broadway in 1949 and is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year.  Based on the book Tales ofthe South Pacific by James Michener, and set during World War II, it tells two love stories, both quite unconventional, that deal with the issues of racial prejudice, age differences and the difficulties lovers experience when cultures clash. It also strives to convey the camaraderie of wartime with its humor and the bonding of those who live it. It features songs such as “Bali Ha’I”,  “Some Enchanted Evening” and “There is Nothing Like a Dame.”
