Church Hill Theatre will hold auditions for Gore Vidal’s Visit to a Small Planet on Saturday, January 16 at 11 am, Sunday, January 17 at 5 pm and Tuesday, January 19 at 6 pm. Auditions will be held on the CHT main stage. The production, directed by Liz Clarke, will run three weekends, from April 1 through 17, 2016.
Vidal’s quirky science-fiction comedy follows Kreton, a charming alien tourist who lands on Earth intending to witness the American Civil War. He miscalculates, arriving about 100 years too late in the Spelding family’s back yard! Delighted with modern weaponry Kreton decides to use his powers to initiate a nuclear conflict. Hilarity ensues, as an unlikely group of mid-20th century Americans must stop the war.
Liz Clarke, who directed Five Women Wearing the Same Dress at CHT and several Gunston School productions, will ask actors to do cold readings from the script. Both experienced and first-time actors are encouraged to read for the following roles.
Kreton – an ageless ET, able to assume human form
General Tom Powers – 40s to 60s
Roger Spelding – 40s to 60s
Ellen Spelding – late teens to mid-20s
Conrad Mayberry – late teens to late 20s
Reba Spelding – 40s to 60s
Military aide – 20s to 30s
Delton 4 – another ageless alien
Two TV technicians – no specific age or gender
