Visitors delight in enormous Joe Pye weed blooms buzzing with pollinators, enjoy a chorus of wetland inhabitants at golden hour, observe an elegant arboreal rough green snake, or discover fantastical fungi on a wooded trail. With more than 2,500 recorded species, every visit to Adkins is an opportunity to be awed.
In 2025, we warmly welcomed more than 30,000 visitors who enjoyed free admission thanks to the generosity of our Members. We broadened engagement and community with the addition of two new events, Native Plant Café and Summer Solstice Social, and produced three Rooted Wisdom Walks audio tours by Beechworks.
In addition, we presented a stellar four-part Naturally Better Landscaping Speaker Series and hosted a new cohort of the Maryland Master Naturalist Program in partnership with other local environmental nonprofits.
Our team is well-positioned to confidently move forward in 2026 to produce our next Strategic Plan, a Development Plan generously funded by the Chesapeake Bay Trust, and a Master Plan supported by our FY24 USDA Congressional Discretionary Spending award.
We look forward to your participation in developing these plans, as your input and support will help to inform our vision for celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2030.
With your help, we will continue to provide awe-inspiring experiences that spark joy, foster a feeling of connectedness, and instill a sense of wonder.
