Bachata Begins At The Centre For The Arts

Instructor Diego Guzman joins Dancing on the Shore and Queen Anne’s County Arts Council offering a series of lessons in some of the hottest Latin dances around. Starting on Wednesday, October 13 and running through November 13, at 6 p.m., Guzman will teach beginner Bachata. Originating with the working class in the Dominican Republic, Bachata is a social yet romantic dance that simmers with themes of sadness and heartache. The deadline for registration is October 6. The class fee is $50 for members of the Queen Anne’s County Arts Council, or $55 for non members.

Following Beginner Bachata, popular Arts Council dance instructor and founder of Dancing on the Shore, Amanda Showell, will offer Smooth Review and Level I Argentine Tango at 7 and 8 p.m. Students signing up for more than one class per session will receive a discount.

Guzman began dancing at the age of six in Mexican Folklore dances. He developed a passion for dance studying under Showell while in high school in the United States. After intensive study Guzman joined Dancing on the Shore during the summer of 2010.
