In just a few weeks we’ll be showing the local businesses you voted best in our Golden Anchor Awards for 2023. In the meantime, we continue to highlight winners from last year! For this issue we talked to Lisa Dwyer, owner of Richard Brusca Nursery, who you voted for as a local favorite business owner. She gave us fall gardening tips, told us about their upcoming fall events and more.
Founded over 50 years ago by Lisa’s father, Richard Brusca Nursery has everything a gardener or plant lover could ever need. They have a wide variety of local and exotic trees, shrubs and plants. They also can deliver mulch, stones and potting soils for a small fee. And, of course, the nursery has the tools you need for your garden such as tree stakes and fertilizers. If you’re overwhelmed with all their plant options, Lisa recommends eastern white pine, red buds, and little lime hydrangea as her favorite plants that you can grow locally.
With fall just a few weeks away, Lisa gave us some gardening tips for the colder, shorter fall days. “Homeowners can plant beautiful fall mums, pansies, asters, and ornamental cabbage and kale to add color to their landscapes! If they want to freshen up their landscape beds around their house, fall is the best time to do it! It’s also a good time to mulch around plants to help protect the roots from freezing during the winter.”
Richard Brusca Nursery also has two fun events coming up this fall! On September 23rd, they are having a “customer appreciation day.” There will be discounts, food trucks, live music, and prizes! The event will take place from 9am to 3pm. On October 22nd, they will be holding a fall open house from 12N to 4pm. The fall open house will feature pumpkin painting, music, specials, prizes and more!
Richard Brusca Nursery is located at 140 Brusca Lane in Sudlersville. You can reach them by phone (410-438-3180), via email (bruscanursery@gmail.com).
