Oxford, MD –The Oxford Community Center hosts an annual event every May, Fine Arts @ Oxford, which attracts incredible artists from the Mid-Atlantic and beyond. It is a juried show with almost fifty artists selected to showcase and sell their work. Submissions are accepted until December 31st. The anonymous juror will review all submissions in January and announce the slate of artists early February. The Fine Arts fair is May 17-19, 2019. All artists are welcome to apply. It is a juried show so every artist has a chance to be selected. The Community Center honors the tradition of bringing beautiful art to the region, new or tried and true. The event is known for being intimate and builds long lasting collector relationships for the artists. Audiences of over six hundred flock to Oxford year after year and this year there are more auxiliary events being added to celebrate the 35th anniversary.
This event is the single most important art platform for the community center every year. Producing an environment to share the spectacular artwork brings in revenue that enables OCC to provide meaningful programs throughout the year. Two new art programs have been added to the calendar in February including a two day art workshop with Carole Boggemann-Peirson February 4th and 5th and Two day photography workshop with photographer Norman Bell, February 2nd and 9th.
Carole’s workshop from 9am-3pm is designed for students who would love to improve their skills. Carole will cover aspects of strong paintings such as composition, values, color, light and texture to help lift students’ work to a new level. Rather than necessarily working toward leaving with a masterpiece, each will effectively study and practice painting a solid piece from start to finish. Carole’s workshop costs $195 and includes all supplies.
Carole Boggemann-Peirson is a Dutch artist who has been giving demonstrations, teaching work-shops & private lessons on and off the Eastern Shore of Virginia since 2005. She was juried into Plein Air Easton (2013) and has won awards at Local Color (Easton), Paint Snow Hill, MD, Solomons Plein Air Festival (2014), Gloucester Plein Air Festival (2017) & many more. Her work is in international col-lections and she was the featured and event poster artist for Fine Arts@Oxford show in 2015.
Norm Bell is a landscape photographer who uses natural light and texture to create eye-catching compositions. He uses digital and film to capture images, and processes the images in a digital darkroom. His classes on Saturday are from 10am – 12pm for $40 (covers both days)
Mr. Bell is primarily a self-taught photographer. He became interested in photography as a child. He began developing and printing black and white photographs as a teenager, learning by reading magazines and manuals. Mr. Bell’s education and career choices diverted him from photography for a period of time. He resumed his study of photography in the early eighties, finally concentrating on landscape photography in the mid-nineties. Mr. Bell began working in medium and large format photography in 2001, using traditional darkroom processes for black and white images. His most recent work has been produced utilizing digital printing techniques. Mr. Bell’s work has been exhibited in juried shows in Delaware and Maryland and has been purchased for private collections.

Thanks to the generous annual fund donors, event attendees and sponsors, OCC offers free and low cost programs throughout the year. 63% of all events are offered for free. The money raised by the Arts Fair goes directly towards serving our greater community with new educational programs, after school activities for kids, national speakers, concerts and more. The art workshops are funded in part by a grant from the Talbot County Arts Council, with revenues provided by the Maryland State Arts Council.
