Guitar virtuoso Frank Vignola is a leading proponent of Django Reinhardt’s gypsy jazz style of playing. In celebration of Reinhardt’s 100th birthday, Vignola has assembled a topnotch quintet for a searing tribute to one of his earliest musical influences. The Chesapeake Bay Community Band, formerly the Kent Island Community Band, will be performing its first concert under the new name at the historic Avalon Theatre. Titled An Old Fashioned Band Concert, the concert will include marches by John Phillip Sousa as well as Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Franz von Suppe’s Pique Dame Overture. Along with several solo features by members of the ensemble, the concert will feature the Kent Island United Methodist Church Choir under the direction of former Queen Anne’s County High School Band Director Mr. Tom Reed. The band and choir will perform Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus.
