CarFit Offered for Mature Drivers

With the goal of keeping senior drivers safe on our roads, the Talbot County Highway Safety Program will be offering CarFit, an innovative program to help seniors find out how the “fit” of their personal vehicle affects their driving. CarFit is designed to give a quick comprehensive check on how well an older driver and their vehicle work together.

With age, changes in vision, flexibility, strength and range of motion can make drivers less comfortable and reduce control behind the wheel. CarFit technicians will work with senior drivers to complete a 12 point checklist and make recommendations which include driver’s seat positioning, pedal accessibility, and mirror adjustments. An occupational therapist will be available to address individual needs and provide information on how to maintain and strengthen driving health.

CarFit is designed to help seniors drive safely. The program will be take place at the Talbot County Community Center on September 14 from 9am – 3pm and is available by appointment. To schedule an appointment call JoAnn Urso at 410-819-8067.

The CarFit program was created by the San Francisco based American Society on Aging and developed in collaboration with AAA, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
