Carroll, Miles Named Shore Health 2012 Director, Manager of the Year

Shore Health System announces that Robert Carroll, MBA, Director of Director of Performance Measurement and Improvement is the 2012 Director of the Year. Jennifer Miles, BS, RN, Nurse Manager for, 2 East Multi-Specialty Care Unit at Memorial Hospital, is the 2012 Manager of the Year.

The 2012 honorees were chosen by their peers based on their commitment to delivering the Shore Health mission of Exceptional Care, Every Day. The nominees were selected based on their demonstrated service, relationship building, initiative, systems thinking, vision, teamwork and overall commitment to the patients, families, physicians and staff of Shore Health.

Carroll, who lives in Preston, has nearly two decades of healthcare management experience. He is responsible for Shore Health’s performance measurement and improvement and serves as a resource for physicians, nurses and other clinical staff as they work together to measure how well we are serving our patients and identify opportunities for improvement. He works with the Shore Health Quality Team as well as leaders on the medical and nursing staffs to achieve the highest levels of quality and patient safety.

A graduate of Rutgers University, Carroll received a Masters of Business Administration program at Wilmington College with a concentration in Health Care Administration. He is a Certified Professional in Health Care Quality, and a Motorola® Certified Six Sigma Green Belt. His professional affiliations include memberships in the National Association for Healthcare Quality, American College of Healthcare Executives and the Maryland Association for Healthcare Quality.

Commenting on Carroll’s contributions to Shore Health System, one of his peers said, “Rob has a true knack for building relationships and supporting the clinical areas. He identifies issues before we even know they are issues.”

Another person writes, “Rob’s communication techniques and presentation methods always help staff and community leadership understand the workings of our organization and what we have accomplished and need to accomplish. He always has a positive attitude no matter what the situation. He is 150 percent committed to what he is responsible for and strives to deliver the exceptional care every day.”

Miles, who lives in Easton, began her career at Memorial Hospital’s Surgical Unit in 1988. She received her nursing degree from the Macqueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing in 1992. She worked as a staff nurse in the Surgical Unit and Same Day/Short Stay/PACU for 11 years before taking a role as clinical coordinator for the Multi-Specialty Care Unit. She was named Nurse Manager for the unit in 2005.

Miles earned a bachelor of science in nursing from Wilmington College in 2003. She is certified in Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Administration by the Oncology Nurses Society and a CPR instructor.

One colleague who nominated Miles for manager of the year wrote, “Doing what is best for the patient is paramount. She always advocates for the needs of the patient, putting in whatever time is needed to meet their needs and assure that the most appropriate care is delivered.”

Another nominator wrote, “Jenn brings innovative, system and process related ideas that are rooted in the real processes of care delivery and nursing practice to the teams that she works on. She is quick to grasp the organization’s goals, her team’s part and her own part in helping us to achieve those objectives.”
