Back by popular demand, the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center’s Birdies for the Bay golf tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. on July 19 at Queenstown Harbor, an Audubon-certified golf course.
In the past, CBEC has raised $65,000 from this event to support its environmental education programs. There are numerous prize categories, including a chance to win $10,000. New this year is a unique hybrid best ball format to keep it fresh and interesting for players. A maximum of 50 teams in a 4-man/woman scramble format will compete on both the Lakes and River courses at Queenstown Harbor.
Vicki Paulas, CBEC’s restoration manager, said, “Golf is a great way to network and gain visibility among the “green community.” Plus, in addition to the abundance of wildlife on the Queenstown Harbor golf course, some of CBEC’s resident live birds of prey will be onsite for good luck.”
In keeping with CBEC’s “green” policy, organic wines and locally made foods will be featured on the menu, and all disposables will be made from biodegradable materials.
CBEC Executive Director Judy Wink said, “We don’t care how many golf balls you lose—just come out and support CBEC’s environmental education programs and Chesapeake Bay restoration efforts! As always, there will be lots of good prizes, food, drinks, and mayhem, so players will be well rewarded with a fun day of golf for a great cause.”
