CBMM Gives Active Military Families Free Admission Memorial Day Through Labor Day

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) in St. Michaels, MD has announced free admission to all active-duty military personnel and their families Memorial Day through Labor Day, 2012.

The promotion is part of CBMM’s affiliation with Blue Star Museums—a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), Blue Star Families, and more than 1,500 museums across America. CBMM offers free, individual admission to all active military for the balance of the year.

Open daily from 9am to 6pm Memorial Day through Labor Day, CBMM celebrates the Chesapeake Bay and its cultures through twelve exhibit buildings over 18 waterfront acres in historic St. Michaels, MD. Highlights of a visit include climbing and exploring the 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse, interacting with real shipwrights building authentic, wooden Chesapeake boats, taking a river cruise on the buyboat Mister Jim, and engaging in numerous hands-on exhibits and family-oriented activities and events.

Two new exhibits open in April and highlight the year, including “Gunning Among Friends: Chesapeake Waterfowl Hunting Clubs,” which runs through November 4, 2012, and “Push and Pull: Life on Chesapeake Bay Tugboats,” which runs through 2014. The three-year restoration of the historic working sailboat, the skipjack Rosie Parks, is also underway, in full public view.

To receive free admission, active-duty military personnel should show a military ID upon entry to the museum. Non-military admission is $13 for adults, $10 for seniors, $6 for children 6-17, and free for younger children and museum members. For more information, call 410-745-2916 or visit www.cbmm.org.
