We’re spending 2023 highlighting the local businesses and organizations our readers voted the best! This time we’re highlighting Cult Classic, an amazing local spot you voted “Best Local Brewery.” We talked to Rohry Flood to learn a little bit more about their unique beers, The Kent Island Creator’s Klub and more!
Located in what used to be a grocery store at 1169 Shopping Center Road in Stevensville, Cult Classic uses their large space to brew a wide variety of IPA’s and beers. They have everything from a more traditional porter to the aptly named and fruity “Attack of the Strawberry Blonde.” Cult Classic’s Rohry Flood even has a personal favorite if you’re looking for a recommendation. “I’m partial to our Equals Beer Blood Orange IPA. It’s gorgeous, smells amazing, keeps me warm and it’s always there for me.”
Beyond their brews, Cult Classic has developed a reputation for holding a wide variety of events. Tuesdays are Open MIC at 7:30pm and Wednesdays it’s “WINGO Wednesdays” at 6pm, which is “like BINGO but instead you win chicken wings.” Every Thursday from 3:30-6pm, they host a Farmers’ Market. Check their web site for other hosted events such as Books & Beer, Brews & Q’s Trivia and Line Dancing.
Rohry says that the variety of events they hold at Cult Classic play a huge role in their success. “If it’s about community, it is our model. It’s been an uphill battle opening when we did and growing as we have. Any chance we get to bring new faces into the space and show them what we’ve done with the old grocery store is a major win. We know they’ll keep coming back for the beer, the food, the entertainment, and all our characters that love to call this place their home away from home. Combine that with doing good, and it’s not hard to get people excited about enjoying a beer!”
Keeping in line with their mission of “Community,” Cult Classic founded the Kent Island Creators Klub to help bring art to Kent Island. Their first project was creating a beautiful and unusual mural on the side of their building. “We knew we wanted something that would catch everyone’s eye, and we’ve had a vision for a cultural revival of our island. Art, music, food, drinks, entertainment… we want folks to have the most memorable time when they visit Kent Island. We also want to paint the town, so we put out a call for artists and we were immediately drowning in talent.” The Kent Island Creators Klub is hard at work on their next project so stay tuned for more to come!
The Shore Update also would like to note that Cult Classic graciously sponsored the October, 2022 Power of 100, Chesapeake Women Who Care event and is sponsoring the April event as well.
