On Tuesday, May 26th Jacki Carter of the Character Counts! program presented to the Queen Anne’s County Commissioners a Proclamation designating June the Month of Fairness. The Proclamation was written by Mary Anne Lange and the ARC of Central Chesapeake Region and read aloud by Commissioner Jim Moran, President of the County Commissioners.
“Fairness is an important pillar in because we are all equal and should be treated as such!”- Mary Anne Lange, ARC of Central Chesapeake Region
The Character Counts! Program is a national effort to increase character education by offering resources, training, and information about the Six Pillars of Character – Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. For the past fourteen years in Queen Anne’s County, character coaches have been visiting local classrooms to share lessons on the Commissioner proclaimed “Pillar of the Month”.
During the month of June, character coaches are focusing their lessons on “Fairness” and the importance of demonstrating “Fairness” by being consistent, listening, being open, being careful about making judgments of others, treating people equally and equitably and following fair procedures! The variety of lesson plans are endless, as some coaches read stories, discuss current events, or design hypothetical scenarios for the class to work through.
We are currently recruiting Character Coaches and Mentors for all QAC Public Schools. To become a Character Coach or Mentor for the 2015- 2016 school year or for additional questions, please contact the character coach and mentor coordinator, Jacki Carter, at 410-758-6677 or firstname.lastname@example.org. CC! is a part of the Queen Anne’s County Local Management Board.
