Chesapeake College is sponsoring several “You Can Afford College” events Jan.30 through Feb. 3. These events, conducted by Chesapeake’s Director of Financial Aid Mindy Schaffer, are free and open to the public.
“The financial aid application process can be daunting, but we’re here to help everyone,” said Schaffer who has more than 25 years of financial aid experience. “I’ve found that with some explanation and guidance, families can make it through the process successfully. It is well worth the time investment.”
Schaffer will offer sessions on filing financial aid applications. The “FAFSA Filing” drop-in assistance workshops on Monday, Jan. 30 and Thursday, Feb. 2 will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Dorchester Administration Building, Room D -106. Another drop-in session will be offered on Friday, Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The workshops will help students complete the 2012/2013 FAFSA, learn about financial assistance sources and meet application deadlines. Participants in the free workshops as asked to bring copies of 2010 tax returns and 2011 W2 forms.
The public is also invited to attend the “Money for College” presentations about financial aid on Tuesday, Jan. 31 or Wednesday, Feb. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Caroline College Center. Schaffer will present information about both federal and Maryland state sources of financial aid for college.
