Chestertown Man Pleads Guilty To Turtle Trafficking

A Maryland man is pleading guilty in a federal case in New York state involving the illegal trafficking of a protected species of snapping turtle. As part of his plea, 57-year-old Michael Johnson of Chestertown, admitted to buying the turtles from undercover agents in New York. Johnson then processed the turtles for their meat at a plant in Millington, ultimately selling the meat for more than $8400. Johnson faces up to a year in prison and $100,000 fine.
