If you are ever in need of a cultural experience that isn’t far from home, the first place you should go is the Kent Island Federation of the Arts.
I went to the Federation recently to check out what they had. As soon as you enter the building, you are welcomed by a nice little gift shop full of pieces ready to take home. A couple steps further, and you have stepped into a world of beautiful art, all brought to you by local artists.
I was escorted around the Federation by Carol Tulip, a lovely woman who works as a docent. She showed us quite a few cool pieces of art, and I was immediately sucked in by the pastel drawings.
INTERESTING ART FACT: Some artists will work with pastel and pencil on colored paper to give their artwork a bit of dimension.
Just in case you were wondering. I mean, I thought that was pretty cool.
Sadly, if you are interested in seeing the same pieces that I saw, you would be out of luck. By the time your artistic soul is reading this, there will be a new exhibit in.
Luckily, the next exhibit is the Student Art Work Showcase, which I can assure you will be extra nice. The Showcase is on March 9th, from 1-4. Ms. Carol advised us to come later in the day if you are interested in taking pictures, since many proud parents will be crowding the place.
Even if you missed the current exhibit, I have some great pictures attached. After looking at them, make sure to hop in the car (or maybe even bike, it might be close enough) to the Kent Island Federation of the Arts. It’ll be worth your time.
