Delivery Day, November 23, began with check out instructions, a devotion and prayer. The lyrics of Sara Groves’ song “ADD TO THE BEAUTY” set the tone for what was being accomplished through the collaborative effort of the local community that they serve.
The song says beauty comes in small inspirations and it brings redemption to life and work…that beauty comes in loving community and helping a soul find its worth. It is grace and an invitation; calling out the best of who we are.
FEED A FAMILY supplied the invitation to churches, businesses and organizations to encourage their folks to pick a Turkey Tag that represented a local family in need of food help at Thanksgiving. As individuals accepted the invitation, 345 families in Stevensville, Chester, Grasonville and Queenstown received an abundance of food for the holiday and beyond! Our local schools were invited to hold food drives and because of their participation, we could supplement larger families and have enough to pass on to 5 church food pantries that help folks all year long. Many donated Grocery Store Gift Cards that has enabled us to help support those giving Christmas Food Baskets.
2013 FEED A FAMILY had 13 churches, 9 organizations/businesses, 8 schools and hundreds of volunteers buying, giving, sorting, packing, checking, and delivering food for our local community. Blessing and thanks go to local businesses that help us with setting up…..EbbTide Tent Rentals, Victory Packaging, RJH Heat and Air Conditioning, Lowery’s Fresh Produce and Farmer John’s and Walgreens. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity of time, talent, treasure and witness.
And as the song ends for this year…THANK YOU for adding to the beauty, to tell a better story and shine with the light that burns inside. Kent Island, Grasonville and Queenstown is a beautiful place to live!
