Counties Could Get Hit Hard by Senate Bill

Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties could be in big money trouble when it comes to education. Senate Bill 959 would shift responsibility for certain school-related pension payments from the state to the counties. It would save the state $330-million a year, but it would come out of each county’s education budget. For Kent County, it would mean by fiscal 2015 having just under one million taken out of the yearly education budget to pay pensions for Board of Education, library and community college employees.
