On March 15th, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Queen Anne’s & Kent Counties, Inc. hosted a conference by nationally known speaker, Frank Kros, MSW, JD of the Upside Down Organization. Over 60 people, including CASA volunteers, community partners and representatives from the Courts were present at the Hilton Garden Inn on Kent Island for this all day conference addressing effects of poverty and child abuse on the adolescent brain. This conference was made possible through a grant from the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention. Court Appointed Special Advocates promote the best interests of children who are under the protection of the court system due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. As empowered by the Courts of Queen Anne’s & Kent Counties, CASA provides trained volunteer advocates to make assessments and recommendations to the Court, with the goal of ensuring they are placed in safe, permanent homes. We are seeking volunteers to attend the upcoming pre-service training program.
