Convicted sex offender William Clarke had until last Monday to register as a sex offender. Originally, the judge who sentenced him did not require him to do so, but the Queen Anne’s State’s Attorney’s office went to Attorney General Gansler for a ruling. Gansler’s office said the nature of Clarke’s crimes made it mandatory for him to register, whether or not the judge ordered him. Clarke is the Grasonville man convicted of sexual acts with two girls, ages 12 and 14 at the time. He got a suspended jail sentence and five years probation.
