The Developmental Disabilities Council, The Arc of Maryland, The Arc Central Chesapeake and The Arc Northern Chesapeake will hold a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, September 27 2011. This meeting will focus on the issues and needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families – especially as they relate to the Eastern Shore. The town hall will address the varying community needs in Caroline, Cecil, Kent, Talbot, and Queen Anne’s counties. The town hall will run from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at the Queen Anne’s County Library, 200 Library Circle, Stevensville, MD 21666.
Self-advocates, family members and community members will speak to their stories of success and needs and professionals in the disability community will outline current policies and the difficulties of providing services in a greatly under-funded system.
Providers of care, Resource Coordinators, representatives from the Eastern Shore Regional Office of the Developmental Disabilities Administration, County Commissioners, local county legislators and Queen Anne County’s Superintendent and board members have been invited and there is expected to be a strong showing of community members.
Says Kate Rollason, Executive Director at The Arc Central Chesapeake, “Our town halls are an important way to let our public policy officials hear directly from the people affected by the lack of services in the disability community.”
All interested community members are invited. To RSVP or for additional information, please contact Angie DeMoreland at admoreland@thearcccr.org
