DNR Counts Blue Crabs

State fisheries scientists are studying the head count of blue crabs at the bottom of the Chesapeake Bay. Department of Natural Resources biologist Shellie Bronis tells the Baltimore Sun that numbers look good so far, though official results will not be released until April. The number of blue crabs rose 60-percent to its highest level since 1997 last year. If the population rises again it means a strong recreational and commercial crabbing season in Maryland.
