The Ruth Beane Collection, A Retrospective is a collection of paintings and sculpture on loan from Fred Beane and family. The pieces in the collection were created in the years 1957–1988. Ruth’s daughter, Kim Sheridan, wrote of her mother “Her therapy and true love was always painting. Oils were her favorite, and she spent many hours in front of a canvas. As a break and to inspire her creativity, she would stray a bit with charcoal, sculpture, ceramics and pencil sketches. She was always recruited to paint scenery for local theatre shows, projects at the schools and swim club and murals on the walls of her house.”
At the same time, Quilts As Art, a judged exhibit of art quilts, is also being show at KIFA. This lovely collection of wall hanging art quilts are created by quilt artists of the Eastern Shore. Judy Gunter, a NQA certified judge, will be judging four categories; Pieced, Appliqué, Pictorial, and Other. The show is partially sponsored by Lilies of the Fields, a quilters fabric paradise located in Easton, who has donated all the award prizes.
The exhibits will show through Saturday, November 19, with a public reception on Saturday, November 12 from 3 – 5 p.m. KIFA, located at 405 Main Street in Stevensville, is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 1 – 4 p.m. For more information please call 410.643.7424 or go to www.KIFA.us.
