Easton Rotary Announces 2010 Recipients of Their Annual Scholarship

The Easton Rotary Club has recently announced it’s recipients of their 2010 annual scholarship fund.  The Easton Rotary gives scholarships each year to two students whose service, character, and goals most closely relate to that of the Rotary’s.  These goals include: community service, vocation as an opportunity to serve society, international understanding, goodwill and peace through world service, and leadership as an opportunity to promote high ethical standards. The Easton Rotary picks students each year from either Sts. Peter and Paul or Easton High School with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

This year’s Scholarship committee members were Karen Salmon, Al Silverstein, Blenda Armistead, C. Albert Pritchett, and Barbara Viniar. “It was difficult to choose among the many outstanding applications we received this year. The quality of the two young people we selected, and especially their commitment to the Rotary value of service, gives me confidence in the future.” said Barbara Viniar member of the scholarship committee.

Alexander Graham, a graduduate of Sts. Peter and Paul, is entering Georgetown University in the fall. He chose to attend Georgetown because of its prestigious reputation in global studies. From his studies of language and cultural studies and from his service with the Naval ROTC he hopes to foster the humanitarian goals so cherished by the Easton Rotary Club.  It has been said of Alexander that he is dedicated, bright, and insightful and cares to understand the deeper meaning of issues.

Lindsey Gordon, a graduate of Easton High School, is entering University of Maryland College Park in the fall as a Biology Major and then off to pursue Dentistry/ Orthodontics. Lindsey says of orthodontics, ” What appealed to me most was the factor of giving back to the community. Performing orthodontics not only inceases aesthetic value, but also increases function of the patient’s mouth and restores physiological confidence… I absolutely cannot wait to achieve my goals and get to the point of success that allows me to give back to the community.”  Lindsey, in addition  to her dentistry goals is already rich with community service activities which include: Easton Middle School Drama Department, Fundraising for Non-Profit Organiztations, Interact Club, Operation Christmas, Habitat for Humanity and she was a Peer Tutor in Math and Sciences. Lindsey was ranked 14th in her graduating class with a GPA of 3.93.

The Easton Rotary Club has all the confidence in this year’s recipients, Alexander and Lindsey and is proud to team up with these outstanding young leaders and wishes them well this fall in and in their ambitious pursuits.
