The Queen Anne’s County Arts Council’s Centre for the Arts brings a host of new classes to Centreville for its Fall schedule. Ballroom dance, oil painting, boot camp, journaling, jewelry making, digital photography and art classes for kids and more are on hand. Registration deadlines are approaching for a number of classes that begin in September and pre-registration is required for all classes.
September 10: Dance Party. Saturday, 8-10:30 p.m. Wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt and celebrate the end of summer. Early bird Merengue lesson from 7:15-8 p.m. Presented by world class dancer and instructor Amanda Showell www.dancingontheshore.com $10 members/$12 non members.
September 12 – December 5: Beginning and Intermediate Oil Painting, ages 16+ Monday, 6:30-9 p.m. (no class 10/24) Create an original oil painting that will last forever. Popular instructor and award winning artist Tina Williams teaches the use and application of oil paints as well as mixing colors and highlights with this medium. Register by 9/6. $140 members/$161 non members.
September 14 – October 5: Ballroom Dance: Beginner Level 1 Rumba, ages 14+ Wednesday, 7-7:50 p.m. Beginners and experienced students practice and learn a romantic slow dance with world class dancer and instructor Amanda Showell www.dancingontheshore.com Register by 9/7. $50 members/$55 non members.

September 15 – November 3: Drawing 101, ages 16+ Thursday, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Learn the principles, tools and media used in drawing with an emphasis on still life, landscape and architecture. Experienced instructor and professional artist Rick Strittmater www.blackpooldesign.com teaches a variety of approaches using dry media. Register by 9/8. $125 members/$146 non members.
September 15 – November 3: The Artist’s Journal, ages 16+ Thursday, 1-3 p.m. Learn how to keep a visual journal of your daily artistic experiences using illustration, photography and journaling. Experienced instructor and professional artist Rick Strittmater teaches this creative class. Register by 9/8. $125 members/ $146 non members.
September 15 – October 20: Watercolor with Kurt Plinke, ages 15+ Monday, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Beginner and advanced watercolor students will learn basic techniques as well as adding details with this medium. Several small watercolor paintings with a focus on the natural world will be completed under the direction of award winning artist and instructor Kurt Plinke www.kurtplinke.com Register by 9/8. $125 members/$146 non members.
The Centre for the Arts classes are designed to renew existing artistic interests, and to develop new skills.
