Students will explore the medium of gouache, and learn characteristics of avian anatomy, feather coloration and techniques for painting birds. Instructor and painter Ric Conn studied at the Corcoran College of Art and the Maryland Institute College of Art. He teaches regularly to students of all ages.   Registered students will receive a supplies list. Register by 9/16

These interactive one day workshops are designed to turn your art into your business. 1. Properly Price Your Art: how to set a rational and market sensitive price for your art. This will give you the knowledge-based flexibility to a price you have confidence in and can modify as you want. 2. Venues & Advertising: Learn practical dos and don’ts of advertising your art as well as advantages, disadvantages and cost of various venues. Understand where you can put your art, cost/benefits, and how to diversify your income stream. Instructor Lee Nelson brings over 23 years of finance and marketing experience plus a close connection to art to teaching artists the tools they need to make art  their successful business. Using images of fall for inspiration, this class will explore various techniques and media while establishing compositions.  Pumpkins, gourds, bird nests, leaves and autumn landscape will serve as subjects. Media will include watercolor, colored pencil, pastels and India ink. Students will receive a basic supplies list, other materials will be provided.  Instructor Sally Clark holds a B.A. from Rhodes College and a certificate of study from the Institute for American University, Aix-en-Provence, France. An art educator for over 30 years, she is a member of the Artist’s Gallery in Chestertown. Her work is exhibited regionally and held in private collections. Register by 9/24

Ages 12+

Photographer Jay Fleming will share fine art photography techniques while revealing different subjects and locations unique to the Delmarva Peninsula. Students are encouraged to bring in their own photographs for critique. Bring an SLR camera or a point and shoot. Jay’s award-winning photography showcases his passions of the outdoors and photography. Develop your photography skills and learn how to use your digital single lens reflex (DSLR) or iPhone camera. The class covers iPhone techniques, camera characteristics and lenses, operation and settings; exposure control, histogram, WB selections, selecting DSLR modes, accessories and in-camera editing, storage and file organizing software, image processing workflow, support equipment and many examples and tips on composition and camera handling. The class will hold interactive discussions and work on problem solving.  Instructor Don Dement is an award winning professional photographer and instructor. Register by 9/27

Exploring Art – A Journey for Young People

Wed.4:30-6:30 pm  Oct. 8,15,22,29

$110 ($105 members)        Ages 7-11

This course will introduce children to techniques of drawing and painting. Color theory, quality of line, composition, perspective, contour, tone and balance are ideas we will explore as we look at examples of art history and learn to make rewarding projects. Instructor Amy Cummins holds teaching degrees from NYU and Walden University, studied art here and abroad, and has over 10 years experience as an educator. Materials list will be provided to registered students.  Register by 10/1


Sat  10am-12 pm  Nov. 1, 8, 15 

$130, $120 (members)    Ages 4-10

Children learn through reading and being read to. This class will teach art elements and techniques while connecting to children’s literature.  During these three 2-hour sessions, students will develop their creativity, self expression and fine motor skills as they design their compositions during the art-making process. Materials fee $25 to be paid to instructor. Instructor Maria Sage is an Early Elementary Art educator for QA County Schools. She earned her BA from U. of Pittsburgh, and Master’s in Ed. from Carlow University.

Sun  1 – 4 pm  Sept. 21  $50           Ages 13+

Come enjoy an afternoon of plain creative fun! Think inside the box…or outside the box. We’ll be showing you a cool technique to make your piece unique…Have fun! Materials provided.  Instructor Candace Liccione grew up in the craft industry with her family’s business, Aleene’s Tacky Glue. Sun  1 – 3 pm  Oct. 12 $30              Ages 13+

For this fun project, we’ll create a window on reverse side of a canvas, then fill it with a ceramic heart, fun beads, odds and ends, and paint it using a cool technique. STACK’EM UP– Mixed Media Boxes

Sun  1 – 4 pm  Oct. 26 $35             Ages 13+

Stack ‘em up, glue, paint, decorate…to make a set of three papier maché boxes. Choose from an amazing array of papers and ephemera, embellishments, metal charms, beads, paper flowers and much more…to decorate this artsy project. Let your creative spirit soar! Sun  1 – 4 pm  Nov. 2   $35             Ages 13+

It’s time to flex your creative muscles! Learn to stencil design dimension, paint and collage tissue, create textures using recycled materials.  Add colors, metallic waxes, bejewel with glass beads and wire swirls.  You will leave with a beautiful art piece. Sun  1 2- 4 pm  Nov. 9   $40          Ages 13+

This is a show stopper. It’s easy…You’ll transform a high heeled shoe into a piece of art. Learn how to use a wheeled tile nipper, then glue and grout.  Materials provided. Register by 11/3 Instructor Candace Liccione. Location: 4300 Main St, Grasonville.


Wed  6 – 9 pm  Nov. 19

Wreaths aren’t only for Christmas anymore. Learn how to decorate your front door year round with your own creations.  In this class we’ll make a Christmas wreath, but you will learn how to adapt the technique for other seasons. If you have a theme in mind, (e.g.: specific color/beach/patriotic) bring the appropriate components to use on your wreath.  Materials provided. Instructor Diana Saquella learned flower arranging 35 years ago and since retiring has put her creative talents to work designing and decorating for local charity events. Register by 11/12

Zumba® Dance Fitness

Zumbini® Dance Fitness for kids

Awesomely ever after starts here! Let the journey to an active life begin. Zumbini is designed to let adults and their little ones 0-3 (but up to 5 love it too!) wiggle, giggle, sing and learn together. The Zumbini program is where the science of child development meets the magic of Zumba—for the ultimate bonding experience. Instructor Meg Yoast holds a BFA in Dance Education Pre-K through 12 from Towson University and is a member of and certified to teach by Dance Masters of America.

Designed to limber you up through gentle flexion and stretches, this course demonstrates a routine of exercises and deep breathing to increase flexibility and strength, and improve balance while relaxing and reducing stress. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat and  bath towel.
