Bring the family for a fun filled weekend in St. Michaels, a quaint and historic waterfront town on the Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Enjoy the beauty of the foliage color change of the season, which brings excitement and vibrant color to the town, as residents and businesses celebrate the annual Fall into St. Michaels events. The cool breezes, beautiful sunsets and autumn color are wonderful reasons to visit St. Michaels this time of year.

The annual Fall into St. Michaels weekend, held Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19th , is packed with kids activities, pumpkin carving and pie baking contests, where St. Michaels restaurants chefs go head to head against amateur bakers to compete for first place and bragging rights.

New walking tour, “Historic St. Michaels: its People, Places and Happenings”, which will begin at the Museum. The tour begins with a diorama, which highlights the British attacks on St. Michaels on August 10 & 24, 1813, and describes the impact of these battles on the St. Michaels community. After learning a bit about St. Michaels history, a leisurely walk though St. Mary’s Square to Muskrat Park and then on to Navy Point completes the narrated walking tour.

The annual pumpkin carving contest brings professional and amateur carvers together, all striving for first place honors. The pumpkin carving, which turned into the Fall into St. Michaels annual event, was the idea of Diana Mautz, of Carpenter Street Saloon. Diana wanted to do something to bring people to St. Michaels during the autumn months, and started by reaching out to other businesses in the community, and together, they had their first contest. Today, Diana’s son Johnny, along with Sharon Poore, co-chair and organize the Fall into St. Michaels events. Today, twenty-four pumpkins, each being sponsored by a member of the St. Michaels Business Association, are carved. The pumpkin carving contest is held at the St. Michaels Community Center, and viewing starts Saturday from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm, with judging taking place at 1:00 pm. Sunday the pumpkins can also be viewed from 10:00 am until 2:00pm, when they are whisked away to each sponsors place of business to display proudly.

The Bay Hundred’s Annual Pumpkin Pie Competition at the St. Michaels Community Center is open to professionals, home bakers and children. Cash prizes will be awarded to top three winners in each category and, of course, bragging rights and a plaque come with the wins. Judging will begin at 10:00 am and sales will begin at 11:00 am. This year the Fall into St. Michaels kids activities & costume contest will be sponsored by Talbot Bank and hosted by Union United Methodist Church. Volunteers from the church will be on hand to help with pumpkin and cupcake decorating, face painting and other activities from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm.

The 19th Annual Jack Russell races will be held on the grounds of the Inn at Perry Cabin by Belmond, where Jack Russell Terriers showing off their athletic and social natures in a series of races.
