Farmer’s Market Opens

The farmers market is now open with vendors selling their goods in Fountain Park from 8a.m. to noon. They are offering a variety of locally grown vegetables, eggs, meat products and other farm produce. The rules are explicit about local production; vendors must be based in Kent or Queen Anne’s counties, and their wares must be produced locally. This gives local farmers an outlet for their produce, and it gives shoppers assurances that the goods will be fresh. The local market has been chosen two years in a row as the favorite small farmers market in Maryland in the America’s Favorite Farmers Markets Contest, sponsored by the American Farmland Trust. In 2011, it was voted the best in the state, regardless of size, and the sixth best small market nationally.
