On the afternoon of June 30, Troopers at the Centreville State Police Barrack responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of Main Street at Second Avenue, Betterton, Kent County. The crash resulted in one person sustaining fatal injuries. Information developed during the investigation by Trooper N. Alvarez indicates that 59-year-old Edward Russell Carson of Still Pond, Maryland was operating a 2005 Saturn Vue traveling northbound on Main Street. Early investigation indicates Mr. Carson was traveling at a high rate of speed in a posted 25 mph zone. The vehicle crossed the center line and struck two unattended vehicles parked on the southbound shoulder of Main Street, pushing one vehicle approximately 100 feet before stopping. Mr. Carson was transported to Chester River Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Troopers from the Centreville Barrack were assisted at the scene by members of Kent County’s Betterton Company 5, Kennedyville Company 4, and Galena Company 3 Volunteer Fire Departments.
