Knitting, crocheting, quilting and other hand crafts have made their way back into the arts and fashion. The Queen Anne’s County Arts Council in Centreville, Maryland has a number of classes covering a variety of techniques offered in their current winter/spring schedule of classes.
Award winning hand quilting instructor Anne Welsh offers “Intro to Hand Applique Quilting” a one-day workshop on Wednesday, January 16 from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Students will learn the basics of the needle-turn applique method to make a decorative pillow. Materials provided by the instructor and included in the class cost. $35 for members, $45 nonmembers, ages 16 and above. The deadline for registration is January 9.
Fashion forward trends include handmade knitted or crocheted accessories. Creating personalized clothing and other items is a great form of self-expression and rewarding to make. Learn basic knitting stitches and techniques for use on the scarf. A few extra techniques will be taught for the hat. Either can be customized in color and pattern. “Knit A Hat and Scarf” will be taught by fiber artist Emilee Kingsley on Saturday, January 19 from 10 am to 2 pm for ages 8 and above. $30 for members, $40 for non-members. The deadline for registration is January 11.
