FIX A LEAK WEEK – EVERY DROP COUNTS

That dripping shower head. The faucet you’ve been meaning to fix. The toilet that runs “sometimes.” Most homeowners have at least one small leak they’ve learned to live with but those leaks can add up quickly.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), leaks in U.S. homes waste more than one trillion gallons of water every year. The average household alone can waste more than 10,000 gallons annually from leaks that often go unnoticed.

That’s why Palmer’s Plumbing, LLC is proud to participate in the EPA WaterSense® Fix a Leak Week, taking place March 16 – 22, 2026. Fix a Leak Week is a nationwide effort encouraging homeowners to check their plumbing systems, catch leaks early, and reduce unnecessary water waste.

“This is one of those reminders that’s worth paying attention to,” says Jason Palmer, Master Plumber and President of Palmer’s Plumbing, LLC. “A leak might not seem like a big deal at first, but if it goes unchecked, it can turn into a bigger repair or even cause damage inside the home like mold, rot, or structural issues.”

The EPA reports that fixing common household leaks can save homeowners around 10 percent on their water bills, and many repairs are relatively simple. Some of the most common sources of leaks include worn toilet flappers, dripping faucets, and leaking valves.

Here are a few easy ways to check for leaks in your home:

  • Check your water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the reading changes, you may have a leak.
  • Watch your winter water use. If a family of four uses more than 12,000 gallons per month in winter, leaks could be the cause.
  • Test your toilet: Add a few drops of food coloring to the tank. If color appears in the bowl without flushing, you have a leak. (Flush right away so it doesn’t stain.)
  • Look around pipe fittings and faucets for moisture, discoloration, corrosion, or small drips.
  • Check outdoor hose bibs and hose connections for leaks, especially after freezing temperatures.

As a WaterSense partner committed to protecting our water supply, Palmer’s Plumbing, LLC encourages homeowners to take Fix a Leak Week as a reminder to check for leaks and address plumbing concerns before they turn into costly damage.
