Four Grasonville Firefighters Injured in Vehicle Accident

Four firefighters from the Grasonville Volunteer fire Department were injured in a motor vehicle crash last night. Shortly after 11 PM, Grasonville VFD Engine 26 was on the scene of a minor motor vehicle accident on Rt. 50 westbound at the Kent Narrows bridge. While standing by at the scene waiting for the Maryland State Police to arrive, the fire engine was struck on the left side by a tractor trailer.

Six firefighters were in the fire engine at the time it was struck. Four were injured, and transported by paramedic units to Anne Arundel Medical Center. Two others claimed no injuries and eventually drove themselves to the medical center for a check up. The four firefighters injured were Steve McCombs age 38, Alex Dale age 27, Tom Sheahan age 23, and Ray Stokes age 26. As of 7 AM this morning all firefighters had been released from Anne Arundel Medical Center.

The fire engine sustained severe damage, but the cab held up well in protecting the firefighters inside. The tractor trailer driver was not injured.

Maryland State Police are investigating the accident.
