On Thursday, September 30, free prostate cancer screening will be offered between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm at the Talbot County Health Department, at 100 S. Hanson Street in Easton. Appointments are required.

The free health service is open to men age 35 and older who live in any Mid-Shore county. The screening is also offered to men as young as age 30 if they are at higher risk for prostate cancer, specifically African American men and those with a family history of prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is a serious disease that currently affects more than two million American men. Estimates indicate that more than 217,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in the United States this year and nearly 32,000 will die from the disease. The second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer, prostate cancer is often treatable if detected early.

This free prostate cancer screening is being provided by Shore Health System, the Talbot County Health Department and the NAACP in conjunction with the Prostate Conditions Education Council. Urologists from Shore Comprehensive Urology will conduct the prostate cancer screening, which includes a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and a physical examination.
