CBMM_CampusWaterfront (400 x 266)The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) in St. Michaels, MD is offering free general admission to all active-duty military personnel and their families this Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The promotion is part of CBMM’s affiliation with Blue Star Museums—a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 1,800 museums across America.

Open daily from 9am to 6pm Memorial Day through Labor Day, CBMM offers twelve exhibit buildings over 18 acres along the Miles River. Highlights of a visit include climbing and exploring the 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse, interacting with real shipwrights building authentic, wooden Chesapeake boats, taking a river cruise on the buyboat Mister Jim, and engaging in numerous hands-on exhibits and family-oriented activities and events.

Two new exhibits highlight a museum visit this year, including “Crisfield Carvings––Bird Hunting on Broad Waters” and “Navigating Freedom: The War of 1812 on the Chesapeake.” The three-year restoration of the historic sailing workboat, the skipjack Rosie Parks, also continues through November.

To receive free admission, active-duty military personnel and their families need to show a military ID upon entry to CBMM. CBMM also offers free, individual admission to all active military for the balance of the year. For more information, call 410-745-2916 or visit
