Freedom Rowers Announces Third Annual Row-a-Thon

Freedom Rowers announced that its Third Annual Row-a-Thon will take place on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the Easton YMCA from 1 pm – 4 pm.

The Row-a-Thon is a friendly competition between teams of four rowers who will row 2,000 meters, the standard distance for Olympic and World Championship regattas, using the rowing machines at the Easton YMCA. Teams and individual rowers will be sponsored by community members to raise money to support the operational costs of the Freedom Rowers program including purchase and maintenance of equipment, regatta entrance fees and transportation to and from races. All participants will receive a gift bag and prizes will be awarded to the strongest performing male and female rowers and for those who raise the most money for Freedom Rowers through their sponsorships.

“We’re looking forward to our third Row-a-Thon,” comments Mike More, Freedom Rowers board president. “We’ve set some ambitious fundraising goals to build on the success of the previous years’ events and encourage the community to come out and support Freedom Rowers and the athletes we serve. This is also a great opportunity for new rowers to learn more about the sport, as well as older rowers who might be interested in putting together a Spring season adult rowing program.”

Members of the community and local business are invited to participate in the Row-a-Thon by sponsoring an individual rower or team, donating items for prize packages, or recruiting their own team to join in the fun. For more information about sponsorship packages, contact Chris Gill, executive director at info@freedomrowers.org.
