Freedom Rowers Receives Grant From MRYC Foundation

Freedom Rowers was awarded a grant from the MRYC Foundation to support its newly created Freedom Rowers Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship fund was created in 2011 to provide rowers with financial assistance to cover the program fees and to give Freedom Rowers necessary funds to honor their commitment to provide all who wish to participate an opportunity to row regardless of their financial situation. To be eligible for the scholarship, rowers must be in good academic standing and must complete a confidential grant application outlining their financial need. A committee reviews the applications and the Board of Directors awards the scholarships based on their recommendations.

“We are very grateful for the support of the MRYC Foundation,” comments Mike Moore, Freedom Rowers board president. “The scholarship fund is especially critical now because of the recent economic downturn. With their support, we will be able to provide the Freedom Rowers experience to youth whose families are struggling during these tough times.”

The MYRC Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to help the youth enjoy access to water sports and environmental activities. Founded in 2010, the MYRC Foundation is an independent affiliate of the Miles River Yacht Club and operates a grant program to support charitable and educational activities relating to the Chesapeake Bay maritime arts and sciences, national and international amateur sports competition and the provision of athletic facilities and equipment to foster these activities.
