“That’s Why She Holds Her Racket Like That” will headline an evening of fun, music and drama honoring Chesapeake Center, Inc. at the Avalon Theatre in Easton, Saturday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m.
Partially supported by the Talbot Arts Council with funds from Talbot County Council, and the generous support of Choptank Electric Trust, the program is produced by The Hugh Gregory Gallagher Motivational Theatre, Inc., a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation that celebrates the power of the human spirit through dramatizations of real life experiences.
Misti Green of St. Michaels makes her stage debut in a fun-filled and touching play on the life of former Chesapeake Center employment evaluator Marianna Breeding of Denton.
Green and Breeding met for lunch recently with Donna Harrison, president of Chesapeake Center, and Carlton Spitzer, who wrote, “That’s Why She Holds Her Racket Like That” in 2006.
“It was both inspiring and fun to meet Marianna,” Green said. “She is a funny, gracious and courageous lady. I am proud to portray her remarkable life on stage.”
Green is a hearing impaired grandmother with three adult sons, one of whom lives in St. Michaels. She responded to an ad in the Star Democrat seeking actors for upcoming plays. “She has been rehearsing for weeks and her hard work is evident in her wonderful performance,” Spitzer said.
Green’s monologue will be accompanied by “surprise performances” to be announced, Harrison said. Rev. Terry Stackpole, a skilled keyboard entertainer will also perform. Stackpole, a retired Catholic Deacon from the Diocese of Washington, D.C., resides in Easton and serves as chaplain at William Hill Manor.
Tickets at $12 for adults and $6 for children and students can be purchased by calling Chesapeake Center, 410-822-4122.
