On Friday, March 6, Compass Regional Hospice hosts its annual Gala at Annie’s Paramount Steak & Seafood House in Grasonville. This elegant evening of dinner and dancing marks the beginning of a yearlong celebration of the 30th anniversary of hospice care in Queen Anne’s County.
Formerly Hospice of Queen Anne’s, Compass Regional Hospice was founded in 1985 to provide hospice care for the people of Queen Anne’s County. Today Compass Regional Hospice is the sole provider of hospice services in Queen Anne’s, Kent and Caroline Counties.
The defining image for the Compass Regional Hospice 2015 Gala is a string of pearls. “Pearls are the traditional gift for people celebrating 30th anniversaries,” explains Heather Guerieri, executive director, Compass Regional Hospice. “For us the pearl also symbolizes our ties to the Chesapeake Bay region and reminds us that each person we serve is a treasure. We take seriously our commitment to care for patients, their families and members of our community, on their own terms, through all phases of life and loss.”
The 2015 Gala begins at 6:30 pm and features cocktails and hors d’oeuvres followed by a seated dinner of lobster tail and steak. After dinner, the dance band Retrospect will entertain guests with a playlist that includes today’s hits and memorable tunes back to the Big Band era. Auction bidding will give guests an opportunity to take home treasures of many kinds, including dinner parties, sporting events, vintage collectibles, jewelry and travel packages.
The popular jewelry raffle returns this year with a one-of-a-kind pearl bracelet donated by Paula’s Fine Jewelry in Chester. Only 100 tickets will be sold for a chance to win this bracelet of four strands of pearls enhanced with rubies and diamond. Raffle tickets priced at $100 are available for sale now and at the Gala. The winning ticket will be drawn at the Gala and the winner need not be present.
Sponsors for the Gala add to the success of this fundraiser for Compass Regional Hospice. “The generosity of the businesses and individuals who sponsor this event make it possible for us to care for the seriously ill and grieving individuals on the Eastern Shore,” says Kenda Leager, development office, Compass Regional Hospice.
“We rely on fundraising events like the Gala and donations from the community for at least 30 percent of our operating budget,” Leager adds. “Proceeds from the Gala make it possible for us to say ‘Yes’ to anyone who needs our services regardless of their ability to pay.”
Gala tickets are $200 per person and must be purchased in advance of the event. Leager says, “The Gala has been a sell out for the last couple of years so we encourage anyone who wants to attend to get their tickets early.”
