Georgette Toews currently serves as the Program Chair responsible for bringing monthly educational workshops to KIFA and its artists. She also serves as the public relations liaison for KIFA’s annual Garden Tour and for the upcoming 50th Gala. She was president of the board from 2006-2007. As an artist, Georgette participates in KIFA’s Annual Open Judged Show, Garden Show and Plein Air Show. She is vice president of the Working Artists Forum in Easton.
After a 30-year career in the Air Force, Georgette decided to follow her passion and took an art class at KIFA taught by well-known watercolor artist John Pringle. Soon after, an artist was born, and Georgette further developed her craft by taking classes with other nationally recognized artists such as David Grafton, Bill Younger, Peggy Blades, Louis Escobedo and Roberta Seger at KIFA and other institutions such as the South Street Easton Studio and School and the Academy of Arts. Most recently, she returned from a three-day day workshop in New Mexico given by southwest landscape and portrait artist Michael Lewis.
Georgette’s paintings are primarily done in oil or acrylic and depict landscapes that inspire her here on the Eastern Shore. Her art retails for between $200-$600 with a median price range of $250-$300. Her artwork can be found on display and for sale throughout the year in select shows at KIFA, the Tilghman Island Inn, Annapolis Maritime Museum, Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters, Johns Hopkins Urgent Care in Chester and at the QAC Center for the Arts. Her artwork also can be viewed online at gtoews.blogspot.com.
Georgette’s favorite master artist is John Singer Sargent. She admires his work for its bright bold colors and loves his beautiful blend of colors creating a perfect mix of impressionism and realism. She also loves a few western landscape artists. Among those she regards highly are Louisa McElwain (recently deceased) of New Mexico, Jill Carver of Austin, Texas and Rico, Colorado, and Logan Maxwell Hagege of Los Angeles.
